A Decade of Double Nickel Death

Sammy Hagar couldn't drive 55, while the Minutemen kept it steady at the double nickels traveling on I-10. Ultimately, President Clinton was more willing to listen to the Red Rocker than three spuds from San Pedro, and we thank him, although we are ourself are a spud, a resident of Pedro, and generally think Sammy Hagar's kind of a dork. Ten years ago tomorrow, the National Maximum Speed Limit was repealed, and we remember being a college student having lived with 70mph speed limits a wishful memory all of our twenty years thinking, "Wow! I can't believe they actually did it!" It was one of those faith-in-America-inducing moments we just don't have too often anymore.
