Rice, Herta to Test IRL Ethanol Blend in Florida

IRL drivers Buddy Rice and Brian Herta will be testing a 90% methanol/10% ethanol blend on December 7th at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The trial, to be conducted in conjunction with Firestone and Honda is a stepping stone toward switching the entire IRL field from methanol over to grain-distilled ethanol for the 2007 season. According to IRL senior technical director Phil Casey, "Our cars won't sound different, smell different or run different to have they have in the past." We're still waiting for a racing car that runs on sour mash, but so far our kneeling drunkard's plea has fallen on deaf ears.
