Okay, now things are just getting silly. Yesterday we mentioned a 9-second Civic, and today reader John tips us off to a 7.9-second Eagle Talon. While the DSM cars were notorious for being easy to get into the 12s with some fairly low-buck mods, the weak link tended to be the transmission, which had a tendency to frag like an egg hurled at an onrushing Peterbilt. Owner John Shepherd builds race transmissions for the the Laser/Talon/Eclipse triplets, and apparently avoids crunching the box by resisting the temptation to drop the clutch upon launch and make it up at the top end, where the car turns trap speeds nigh-on 180 mph. Yikes.
