With a new V6 option (and more-powerful four), longer wheelbase, traction control and more passenger room — including a "third row" tot lot — Toyota's latest RAV4 is an exercise in responding to criticism. Where the current model's comportment is more jeeplike — rear legroom designed to Halfling specs, and lack of cargo space — the new one is a full-on small SUV. Still, the redesign's softer surfacing alleviates the angular design tension that made the current model appealing, giving it a more generic look. Sometimes, tension is good.
