One slab-sided seven seater, hold the bacon. Jeep's new Commander, officially unveiled at the New York Auto Show in March, is ready for slime time — of the off-road mud or smeared kid-food variety. Built on the same platform as the Grand Cherokee, Jeep's room-for-a-million SUV comes with a wide powertrain options list, including a choice of three full-time four-wheel-drive systems (Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II), two transfer cases including traction control, three engines (3.7-liter SOHC V-6, 4.7-liter SOHC V-8 and 5.7-liter HEMI V-8), electronic limited-slip differentials and two five-speed automatic transmissions.
