While Hot Rod's redesign a year ago has increased circulation and advertising somewhat, the folks at Primedia are desperate to wring every last ounce of cred out of the once-fantastic brand. While editor David Freiburger can complain in his column all he wants about the people upstairs telling him, "Blah blah blah! Give away the GTO this!" Or "Blah blah blah! Do a story on this subpar advertiser that!" The marketing people under the stairs are making all kinds of deals to further destroy the brand's few remaining dregs of integrity. To wit? Hot Rod-branded garage floor coverings! Yeah man, that just bespeaks of fire-breathin', tire-smokin' action right there, don't it?
