Considering the extreme autobux paid for vintage cars these days, it's amazing that two of the top three most expensive car auction sales took place in the 1980s. The most expensive car ever sold at auction was a 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe — at $8.7 million — which went on the block in 1987, while the number-three, 1931 Bugatti Royale Berline De Voyager, went for $6.5 million in 1986. Forbes, with help from Sports Car Market, offers the remaining eight of the top ten. Gordon Gekko would be pleased.
