The old "hairdresser's car" label, which many of us slapped on cars like the Pontiac Sunfire, seems almost quaint now that our own hairstylist is on her third Mercedes E-Class. In that light, the Pontiac Sunfire is more of a shampooist's car, an entry-level, kinda sporty ride with a better stereo system than engine. Nevertheless, GM announced it will not renew Pontiac's Sun(x) franchise, which began in the mid-1970s with the Sunbird and will be ending with the 2005 Sunfire. Shampooists, fear not. There are a ton of late-model Mitsubishi Eclipses still around.
