In the early years of hotrodding, enthusiasts with talent far in excess of their bank balances had their pick of junkyard cases to work on — mostly Fords and Chevys from the 1920s and 1930s. If they'd have known they'd created a cultural institution that, fifty years on, would result in supply far outstripping demand, they'd probably have parked those cars in Fort Knox. Either that, or fewer people would have contributed toward 401Ks and more toward 409V8s.
