Neurotechnology researchers in Middle Earth, formerly known as New Zealand, are working on an electronic device to prevent drivers from falling asleep at the wheel. The device would measure drivers' brainwaves and eye movements, and wake them up if they were to nod off. It's unclear whether the wake-up system would use air horn near the ear, a couple-hundred volts in the saddle, or another method to jolt drivers awake. We're told an original prototype that used a spring-activated boxing glove on the end of an unfolding metal lattice proved unsuccessful in test trials.
