Oh Muscle Car Wars, how much teasing will we be forced to endure? GM Design chief Ed Welburn divulged some interesting facts to Bill Bortzfield from Jacksonville.com about the 2009 Chevy Camaro at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance this weekend. Welburn first lets slip that they'll have "the base model and the SS," thereby all but confirming an SS model. He then proceeds to rip into our exclusive and frequently-maligned spy shots of the 2009 Camaro interior and engine bay, saying "The production interior is better than the concept... what has been on the internet were engineering mules... those were the images that leaked out." Is it an excuse, the truth or are they just buying time while they make tweaks? Or perhaps all you unruly fan-boys merely mistook plastic floor sheeting and Holden seating as "production level." Though it may be a violation of some obscure TSA regulation, we're happy to see shots of the 2009 Chevy Camaro being delivered to LAX as it means the new bowtied muscle car is that much closer. These particular photos were snapped by an attentive member of the Camaro5 forum who happens to work the graveyard shift at the big airport. They even come in camouflaged and non camouflaged versions, which makes us think they were too lazy to rip off the tape before sending it over. More »

Like you we've now had some time to really pore over those spy shots of the interior of the 2009 Chevy Camaro we ran on Saturday, so now we've got a number of questions. Chief among them is whether or not the key to turning the traction control nanny all the way off will be to tap in up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start. Or maybe that just gets us an extra 100 feathered roach clips and a weathered Neil Young backstage pass. So, we finally decided we wanted to look at those shots of the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro testing in Australia we showed you earlier from Edmunds InsideLine at a little higher resolution than what the Inside-Liners are able to offer. So we contacted the good folks who work with "Handy" Hans & Christa Lehmann to determine the pricing of their shots and decided it was well worth it to buy a couple for our loyal readers. What we've determined is that the photographer didn't just catch a single Camaro — but rather an entire fleet of Camaro production cars. As we're sure Admiral Ackbar would say — if he'd been Aussie, of course — "Mate! It's a trap!" Get out of there Lehmanns, save yourselves! UPDATE: We bought the durn pictures ourselves and as you can see, it wasn't just a new 2009 Chevy Camaro caught — it was a fleet of them! It seems that spy photos nabbed a pair of Chevy Camaro prototypes testing around Melbourne, Australia. They were, no surprise, accompanied by a pair of Ford Mustangs. From what we can see of the heavily disguised Camaro, it certainly seems to borrow heavily from the Camaro and Camaro prototypes we've already seen. The Camaro is slated for production early in 2009, followed later by a Camaro convertible. Pics of the concept production Camaro fleet caught below and full spy report below the jump.
